Three Techniques to Help You Catch Fish All Summer Long

Kenai river fishing trips

The warm weather is upon us, which means it’s almost time to go on those Alaskan fishing trips you’ve been dreaming of all winter. Before you head out, though, it might be a good idea to brush up on some river fishing techniques, as you might be rusty. Here are a few to keep in mind.

Bottom-Bounce Live Bait.

If you want to catch fish all summer long, then one of the most handy river fishing techniques you’re going to need is bottom-bouncing live bait. This way, the bait is presented more naturally to fish, increasing the likelihood that they’ll bite. Just be sure that you bounce your live bait with the current, not against it.

Find the Weeds.

One of the best river fishing techniques out there is to find where the weeds are along the water, and fish there. These lovely, calm areas are prime fishing spots, since these are the places that fish tend to gather. That being said, weeds aren’t all that common along rivers, so you may have to spend some time looking, but it’ll be worth it.

Bring the Right Equipment With You.

Now, this isn’t necessarily one of the most effective river fishing techniques around, but it’s definitely a piece of advice worth remembering. Depending on where you go and what you want to catch, you’re going to need to bring the right equipment with you. For example, if you go king salmon fishing in Alaska, you’re going to want to bring 25-pound fishing line and a rod that can handle it with you, since those big suckers are pretty powerful.

These are just a few of the most helpful river fishing techniques you can use to catch fish all summer long. If you know of any other helpful river fishing techniques, feel free to share them in the comments.
